AMC V8 Oil Pump Priming Tool

If you are freshening up, rebuilding, or starting an engine that hasn’t been started in a long time, one of the most dangerous things you can do is start it “dry” before the oil has circulated through the engine.  Our Oil Pump Priming Tool allows you to easily send oil throughout the engine and properly lubricate it before you ever turn the engine over.

To use it, you simply insert the flared end over the oil pump gear, accessed through the distributor opening in the top of the timing cover.  The smaller textured end is inserted into a 3/8” drive drill (there is texture on the machined area to help the drill chuck grab the tool).  You then simply activate the drill and spin it until oil is flowing through the pushrods (no need to pack the oil pump housing).  Then you can reinstall your distributor and start your engine!

The tool will fit the AMC V8’s (304, 360, 390 and 401), the Buick 350, the Cadillac 472 and 500), as well as the earlier model AMC 258 6-cylinder engines. This tool may work in other engines as well, but those listed above have been verified.  Will NOT fit Vigilante 327 Engines.

**Note this tool will not fit the newer 258's.  You can tell by looking at the top of your oil pump shaft, if it has a round sleeve or hood over part of the shaft, this priming tool will NOT work.
