Plastic glove box insert. Fully molded glovebox replaces your warped, torn, flaking or missing glovebox. Includes all mounting hardware for a seamless installation. Can be installed through the front door once latch & light are removed.

The plastic seems to be somewhere between 1/16" and 1/8" thick. I didn't measure it but that's about how it looks. It looks like all one molded piece. The inside is smooth. The outside has a texture. The thing is flexible enough that I was able to get it in through the front dash opening, and then reach under the dash, behind the new glove box part, and push/pull it into place without any problems. I actually had this new glove box in and out of the dash about 6 or 8 times for various reasons, and the plastic did not show any signs of cracking or fatigue from the minimal bending required to get it into place. The thing comes with short, sharp hex head wood-type screws that also have a flathead screwdriver slot on them. One concern with this thing is that the mounting holes are not pre-drilled, so you need to fit it, mark the holes with a marker, remove it, then drill the holes. That's not ideal but I suppose the BJ's people can't be sure all the mounting holes are the same from Jeep to Jeep and year to year, so maybe that was the only viable option. The real problem with this thing is that the screws go directly into the plastic. There are no metal plates for the screws to bite into to provide a strong surface to pull against. The original cardboard box has small flat steel inserts crimped into the cardboard for the screws to bite into. The new box does not have those. If you've ever mounted car stereo speakers ,they often come with small flat u-shaped clips that can slip over a layer of thin masonsite board, hold themselves in place, and provide a strong mating hole for a screw. Or the same clips can be slipped over a steel body panel are that has a large screw hole that is too large for the required screw to bite into. These steel clips are the right mating "nut" for the screw. That's what this plastic glove box needs. I was able to mount the box by putting the screws directly into the plastic, but I had to be careful not to torque them down too tight and strip or break the holes and surrounding plastic.

I just received the plastic replacement glove box. Very easy to install. I needed to drill two holes for the quadralock knob. Definitely recommend this product.

Only thing to make this replacement better would be to have it pre drilled for the screws. Other than that, it is a great box.

These work great, and are better, if you're not going for the "original look" They pretty much slide in. You do have to drill holes. The kit comes with hex head screws - they don't look very OEM, but, if you don't like them, getting the screws that you do like is pretty easy.

I love the installed product! But.... it isn't as easy to install as you think. I had to transfer over my Quadtratrac switch, that set screw on the knob was a pain, then I had to figure out how to tighten without drilling a hole in the bottom of my new box! Didn't have enough screws, but I just used to get holes started and put back in my original phillips screws for originality. Extra set of hands was helpful.

I changed mine out while I had the dash apart for a rebuild, but I could see where installing is a pain with everything there (a/c, radio, etc). My install was a cinch and I've had mine for years and it's been awesome. Going to be buying another for my next project for sure.

Unit was not wide enough at top right corner to install cleanly. End up fastening on left side and heating it slowly with hear gun to get it to cover opening. Unit I received only had 4 stainless steel hex head screws. I used trim u-clips and black Phillips head screws. Was expecting a better fit.
